The Tall Ship Red Witch:

Tall Ship Red Witch
Voted "Best Tour Boat,
2009-10"
Illinois Meetings and Events.

Red Witch is a 77-foot gaff-rigged topsail schooner, whose designer was John G. Alden, long considered one of the world's greatest naval architects and classic yacht designers. Built in 1986, specifically for charter passenger travel, she is United Coast Guard licensed to comfortably accommodate 49 passengers. Her dramatic bright crimson hull is constructed from mahogany over oak frames, with a red cedar deck and cypress cabin tops. Red Witch was named after the epic sea story "Wake of the Red Witch" by Garland Roark, which was adapted as a 1949 film starring John Wayne and Gail Russell.

Red Witch was initially commissioned for service in San Diego. Preceding commercial service in Chicago, she chartered in Maui, Hawaii and Ohio - serving as the 2003 Ohio Bicentennial Flagship. Red Witch was a participant in the Chicago Tall Ship Festival in 2003, 2006 and 2010. Red Witch is a current member of the American Sail Training Association (ASTA). She has been used as an educational platform for traditional rig sailing and maritime history.
